Terms of Service

Last updated: October 31, 2026

Welcome to Fowler Mechanical Engineering ("we," "us," or "our"). These Terms of Service govern your use of our website and your engagement of our HVAC service and maintenance services in Bowie, Maryland and nearby central Maryland communities. By accessing our website or requesting a quote, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our website or services.

1. About These Terms

These terms describe the general rules that apply to working with us. Any specific service you book with us will be governed by a separate written work order or estimate that details the scope of work, pricing, and schedule. When there is a conflict between these Terms of Service and a signed work order, the signed work order controls for that service.

2. Estimates and Diagnostics

2.1 Free, No-Obligation Estimates

We provide free, no-obligation estimates for most installations and system replacements. Initial quotes provided online or over the phone are preliminary and based on the symptoms you describe. They are subject to confirmation after an inspection of your system.

2.2 Inspection and Diagnosis

Final pricing depends on the actual condition of your system as observed during inspection and diagnostic testing, including parts required, labor time, and parts availability. We confirm the scope, parts, and total price in writing before any work begins. A quote is valid for 30 days from the date it is issued unless otherwise stated in writing. A diagnostic fee may apply for the technician's time to trace a concern to its root cause; that fee is credited toward the repair if you have the work done with us.

2.3 Changes in Scope

If you request changes or additions to the agreed scope, or if we uncover additional concerns during the work that were not visible during the initial inspection — such as worn parts, leaks, or hidden damage — we will communicate the change and any associated cost before proceeding with the additional work.

3. Scheduling and Turnaround

Service timelines are estimates and may be affected by parts availability, schedule capacity, and prior commitments. We will keep you informed of any schedule changes and work with you to complete the work promptly. We are not liable for delays caused by factors outside our reasonable control, such as back-ordered parts or supplier delays.

4. Payments and Deposits

Payment terms specific to your service are set out in your signed estimate or work order. In general:

  • Larger installations may require a deposit to order equipment and reserve a place on the schedule. The deposit amount and schedule are stated in your work order.
  • Final payment is due upon completion, after you have reviewed the finished work and any replaced parts.
  • Accepted payment methods and due dates are specified in your work order. We accept cash, major credit and debit cards, and other methods as agreed.
  • For warranty or insurance-covered repairs, you are responsible for any deductible or non-covered amounts and for authorizing the claim.

If you have concerns about any invoice or charge, contact us promptly so we can address them before final payment.

5. Workmanship and Warranty

5.1 Service Standards

We follow industry-standard practices and use quality parts that meet or exceed manufacturer specifications. Our technicians diagnose and repair each concern thoroughly and stand behind the work they perform.

5.2 Warranty Coverage

Because every system and service is different, the specific workmanship and parts warranty for your service — including what is covered, for how long, and any exclusions — is provided in your written work order. We stand behind our work and will review warranty terms with you before work begins so you know exactly what is covered.

5.3 Exclusions

Warranty coverage generally does not cover damage caused by factors outside our control, including continued use after a known problem, lack of maintenance after the service, electrical or control issues unrelated to the work performed, or failures caused by other worn or neglected components.

6. Customer Responsibilities and Authorization

You authorize us to perform the agreed work and are responsible for the cost of all work you approve. You must provide accurate information about your system and its symptoms so we can diagnose and service it correctly. If you decline a recommended repair, you acknowledge that the related concern may remain unresolved and we are not liable for consequences arising from declined work.

7. Access to Your Home

You agree to provide safe and reasonable access to your HVAC equipment, thermostat, and related areas of your home so we can perform the agreed work. You are responsible for securing pets and removing fragile or valuable items from the immediate work area. We take reasonable care while in your home and treat your property with respect.

8. Cancellations and Refunds

You may cancel a service before work begins by notifying us in writing. If a deposit has been paid and equipment has not yet been ordered or labor has not begun, it will be refunded in accordance with the terms in your work order. If special-ordered equipment has been received or labor has begun, reasonable costs incurred may be deducted. Refunds for completed work are handled on a case-by-case basis as described in your work order and warranty terms.

9. Use of This Website

You agree to use this website lawfully and not to misuse it, including by attempting to interfere with its operation, submitting false information, or using any content in a way that infringes the rights of others. 10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Fowler Mechanical Engineering is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of our website or services. Our total liability for any claim related to a service is limited to the amount you paid us for the specific work giving rise to the claim, as set out in your work order.

11. Governing Law

These terms and any disputes arising from them or our services are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts located in Prince George's County, Maryland.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the terms were last revised. Your continued use of our website and services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
